Set against the colorful backdrop of an American heartland tradition, State Fairtravels with the Frake family as they leave behind the routine of the farm for three days of adventure at the annual Iowa State Fair. Mom and Pop have their hearts set on blue ribbons while their daughter and son find romance and heartbreak on the midway. Set to the magical strains of an Academy Award-winning score and augmented by other titles from the Rodgers and Hammerstein songbook, State Fairis the kind of warm-hearted family entertainment only Rodgers & Hammerstein could deliver!
Performances of this production are free, but we ask for donations to help cover the production costs. There are opportunities to make donations before and after each performance.
Staring Lake Amphitheatre is an open-air theater in Staring Lake Park, overlooking beautiful Staring Lake. The seating area is terraced grass; for your comfort, you are encouraged to bring folding lawn chairs or a blanket to sit on. Parking is available at the park or, for overflow, at the nearby soccer fields. A free shuttle bus runs between the soccer fields parking lot and the amphitheatre (all nights except June 17). Concessions are sold, and you are also free to bring in your own food and drink.
