Live Theater in Eden Prairie

2017 Season

Winter Play

Our Winter play for 2017 will be Plaza Suite, by Neil Simon. Directed by Stephen Houtz.

Hilarity abounds in this portrait of three couples successively occupying a suite at the Plaza. A suburban couple take the suite while their house is being painted and it turns out to be the one in which they honeymooned 23 (or was it 24?) years before; and was yesterday the anniversary, or is it today? This wry tale of marriage in tatters is followed by the exploits of a Hollywood producer who, after three marriages, is looking for fresh fields. He calls a childhood sweetheart, now a suburban housewife, for a little sexual diversion. Over the years she has idolized him from afar and is now more than the match he bargained for. The last couple is a mother and father fighting about the best way to get their daughter out of the bathroom and down to the ballroom where guests await her. Or, as Mother yells, "I want you to come out of that bathroom and get married!"

Summer Musical

Our Summer Musical will be Stiles & Drewe's musical, Honk!, based on the Hans Christian Anderson story The Ugly Duckling. This production will be directed by Stephen Houtz with Melissa Warhol as Music Director and Brianna Belland as Choreographer.

Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters. The other animals on the farm are quick to notice and point this out, despite his mother's protective flapping. Feeling rather foul about himself, the little fowl finds himself on an adventure of self-discovery, all the while unknowingly outwitting a very hungry Cat. Along the way, Ugly meets a whole flock of unique characters and finds out that being different is not a bad thing to be.

Childrens' Theatre Workshop

Our Children's Theatre Workshop production this year will be The Trial of Goldilocks, by Joseph Robinette. Directed by Gina Light with Zoe Pettit as student director.

In rhyme, mime and mirth, this exciting comedy examines the familiar fairy tale from three points of view: the traditional, the Bears', then Goldilocks'. Guilty or innocent? Was the young girl a selfish, spoiled brat, intruding where she didn't belong? Or was she the victim of three conniving bears (and their animal "band of hoods" in the woods)?

Our Children's Theater Workshop is a play performed by children aged 9 to 15 for kids and adults of all ages.
